Slot Name: Ronin
USA Players: Accepted
Ronin is the kind of game that players all over the world will love to try out, as long as they have an interest in the history of Japan. The Ronin was a warrior without a master, a samurai that wasn’t too happy about the situation he was in. RTG decided to build an entire slot machine around this type of character, and what came out was a slot with 5 reels, 20 bet lines and which pays up to $50,000.
US players will have access to all RTG slot machines, and Ronin is included in that list.
Betting & Jackpots
You can place a bet which varies between $0.01 and $100, a big enough betting range to make the game accessible to anyone. You use 1 to 20 paylines and you choose the coin value for that round, which can’t go higher than $5. Each line gets a single coin.
The normal top payout will give you 5,000 coins, or $25,000. With the wild doubling the value by contributing to that combo, the slot can pay $50,000.
The Koku symbol, a round gold jewel with a red stone in the middle, is the wild of Ronin. The slot machine will use this symbol as a substitute, a replacement for other icons which are not present. You get this symbol on the 3rd reel only, and it will double payouts it contributes to. It’s much more limited than in other slots, but it’s still a potentially useful feature.
As for the Ronin symbol, this one is the scatter. Depending on how many of them are present, you get paid 1x to 500x the triggering bet value, if they’re present as scatters, in random positions. The Ronin seems capable of forming regular combinations as well, in which case it pays up to 5,000 coins (double if the wild helps it).
The special features get triggered when a Koku icon is on reel 3, while at least two Ronin symbols are present on the reels. One of three features triggers when this happens.
It can be a round with a respin, where the 3rd reel is held, with 3 to 10 respins for the other four. It can also be a round of free spins, either with 5 games and 1x to 5x multipliers, or with 25 free spins and 3x multipliers.
The design is adequate for a slot machine that has a Japanese theme, especially if you look at the main symbols, which are themed and which pay better. Playing cards are used as well, and they have some sort of themed design, but it’s not very convincing.
If you already knew what a Ronin is, or if you simply think samurais are cool, give Ronin a try and test its features and design for yourself. I think it can be an enjoyable experience.
